The two day Annual Working Committee Meeting of Regional Chapters of

Tibetan Youth Congress in North America concluded here today in

Toronto, Canada. This meeting serves as a platform for the youth

leaders to engage in dialogue under a supportive and creative

environment provided by the participating RTYC chapters.

The meeting was presided over by Mr. Tsewang Rigzin, President of

Tibetan Youth Congress. It was attended by delegates from chapters in

San Francisco, Washington D.C., Toronto, Vermont, Minnesota, Portland

& Vancouver and New York & New Jersey. In addition, local Tibetan

enthusiasts were also present in the meeting to share their views on

various topics. Participating chapter representatives shared their

opinions on a variety of agenda prepared prior to their arrival. Their

criteria were to find the most effective means of improving the

organization’s capabilities. Challenging topics and sensitive subject

matter were all hurtles crossed by the determined freedom fighters in

accordance to His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s non-violent path.

The meeting covered various topics and agendas pertaining to the

future activities of the North America chapters in accordance with the

aims and objectives of TYC. The meeting started with singing of the

Tibetan National anthem followed by the TYC solidarity song by local

Tibetan children. After which all respectfully held a moment of

silence to pay homage to those who had sacrificed their lives for the

cause of Tibet’s Independence and also to mourn the deaths of Tibetan

brothers and sisters in the wake of the tragic earthquake in Kyigudo,

Tibet last April.

The meeting kicked off with delegates reviewing resolutions passed in

the 9th annual meeting held in Minnesota, USA last year. One of the

major agenda discussed was to explore which options were best to

strengthen, reinforce and allow the movement to continue in pursuit of

regaining Tibet’s independence. They also discussed how North America

chapters can contribute to create awareness amongst the Tibetan

populace about the 2011 Tibetan Prime Minister and Parliament’s

elections. A noteworthy part of the meeting was when older and former

regional executives shared advice to the current generation of Tibetan

leaders. Sharing stories of their experiences they urged them to be

daring in order to bring true sustenance to the Tibetan cause.

At the closing of the meeting today, Senator Consiglio Di Nino who is

the Co-Chair of Parliamentary Friends of Tibet (Canada) was present to

show his solidarity for the Tibetan people. In his speech to the

delegates, he said, “we hope you all will live as free Tibetans in

your home country and you are not alone in the struggle”. Former

member of Parliament Peggy Nash was also present to express her

continued support to the just cause of the Tibetan people.

At the end of the meeting, the delegates finalized the main points

discussed during the two day meeting, fine tuning their final

decisions relating to the agendas as well as other topics. After the

final resolutions were passed, the host of the meeting, RTYC Toronto

offered ceremonial Tibetan scarves to the delegates and all were ready

to start implementing the just passed resolutions.
